Maps & Networks - Ideas

Maps and Networks is the first project within our Innervation and Interference module for year 2. The project is an installation based project in which we have been asked to create a piece of art in any form, around the theme of maps and networks. As we are free to create anything I initially wanted to do something big and elaborate and interactive to harness the opportunity but recently I've really been craving the chance to do more photography so i think I'm going to stick with that for this project.

I kind of really had no idea what to do. As the brief was so simple my mind was kind of all over the place part of me wanted to do something on space and constellations, I didn't really have a strong concept for any idea. I then has a meeting with Rosie (that i missed and i joined in on my classmate's, Nina, meeting. from that we realised we had complementary skill sets and similar ideas so we decided to team up. After a long session in the library we chose to play to our strengths and currently we're on the path to do a project that will be very aesthetically similar to my lost photo series but will follow a theme that is more related to nina's work. The Idea we've gone for is to do is to be a "convocation on culture" where we are going to compare the vibrancy of Nina's heritage and how known and recognisable they are with, my white British heritage and how England is known for for stereotypes (tea) and less for the history and culture.

We want to try and represent this through a very simple and bright style of studio photography involving a lot of skin and then with the use of props and post we add more meaning around the culture and create the comparison. I think this idea is very different to what I normally create concept wise and I normally use art as an outlet so doing something more topical is a new experience.
