Experimental Media Soundscape: Ideas

It's time to get started on the first half of our Experimental Media lesson. The Soundscape. I've been tasked to create an inspired soundscape based on a piece of fine art. At face value I'm really excited to proceed with this project as music is always the starting point for all of the films I make and is a great influencer to me. The inspirational imagery given is quite varied in a way and interesting but also they're my first hurdle. The fact that this is my first pice of sound work and none of the given images took my fancy is a small recipe for disaster. I managed to whittle down the images to the three that i thought I could do the most with.

Maman - Louise Bourgeoise

Yellow Red Blue - Wassily Kandinsky

House - Rachel Whiteread

I ended up with these three images because after researching into the images they all had an aspect about them that I would be able to use as a springboard for my soundscape. For Mamen I thought I could only use steel objects to make the sounds to reflect how the sculpture itself is made of steel. For Yellow Red Blue I thought I could take the two sidedness to the image by putting happy sounding sounds coming out of the left ear and sadder sounds coming out of the right. Finally for House, I thought I would be fun to use the aspect of the fact the sculpture is a shell of a house but then use that as metaphor for the family home.

Currently I'm not quite sure where to start with my soundscape as Adobe Audition and the whole process of making a soundscape. I feel that I need to find a way to make an experimental soundscape that has aspects of typical music as it will be easier for me to know wha to record. I think out of the images I want to work with Yellow Red Blue the most as I feel that it would lead to a more upbeat soundscape.
