Experimental Media Soundscape: Recording

For my recording I planned to book out a Zoom and then basically carry it around with me for a few days and record anything that interested me. I ended up booking out a Roland and I looked back at my Ideas and thought that using voice would be an easier way for me to make my soundscape, I thought this because if during editing I realised I need a sound for a certain point I could easily just record myself or someone singing or making that sound and easily put it into the soundscape quickly. Because I decided on using voice I thought that the recording studio would be the best bet for recording but as I knew I would need some quick recording if I didn't have the right sound I chose to use the Roland as Then all of my sound would be of the same quality and would fit.

The actual recording itself was defiantly... a process. Unfortunately no one I knew wanted to be recorded so I used myself and Im not the most confident singer so It was a little bit of a struggle to listen to myself back. My second hurdle of recording was that I knew that there were some sounds that I knew I couldnt get with my own voice so I ended up scouting my home for different sounds. doing this lead me to change my focus image of my soundscape from Yellow Red Blue by Wassily Kandinsky to House by Rachel Whiteread. I thought this because I was going to be using noises from my own home alongside distorted voices.

My new Idea for my Soundscape is to make a comment of typical homes and how theres that ideal of the 'perfect family' and how that isn't normally the case and how literally every family has problems. House itself was a very important piece of art as it was a political statement against Thatcher's Britain. I think that it is a fantastic piece of art and I think my new idea would stand alot stronger then the previous as it has a more concrete stance in the original art piece.

I continued with my recording with the new an improved idea and started recording different more etherial vocal clips (or at least I tried) as I wanted to take inspiration from another of Rachel Whiteread's sculptures, Ghost. This is because Ghost is almost Part 1 and House is Part 2 if you get what I mean. Also during recording I sung some sections of songs that I was listening to during because I thought it would be interesting to see if I could incorporate them and see how they create a more lively soundscape. Overall recording went well and I ended up not having to record much more during editing then what I did initially.
